Brothers Backword will do for the Beastie Boys what the Bourne Ultimatum did for James Bond. Unpretentiously, Brothers Backword are a 21st century update on the classic components of Hip Hop and dance music that made them so lovable in the first place. David Bryant or PASSAGE (Restiform Bodies, Anticon) and Mike Busse (Chronic Future, Modern Art Records partner) rap and sing in legible, irresistible flows. Topical tracks like Special Education, essentially a rapped three minute rendering of the film Notes on a Scandal, wind away from convention far enough to refresh themselves, but swing swiftly back to Earth with syrupy hooks, damaged yet effective verses and downright provocative bridges. Brothers Backword coo and holler like hood rats, with none of the outsider politics or hang ups so common to indie rap. Dave and Mike are the classic "big guy, little guy" combo. Standing 5'7 and 5'11 Brothers Backword set the stage for impressive, tempo melting performances, and their vocal abilities flex to demonstrate the audio equivalent in their recordings.
The "Stupid Intelligent" mix-tape proves the perfect hunting ground for Passage and Busse. They interact with, infect and invade every track, from Mr. Oizo to Talking Heads to Nas. Fearless of studio magic, they add talk box back ups to Shannon and manipulate hooks from beyond your memory. Suitably aggressive and comedic lyrics, weave in and around chopped, meticulously syncopated Christian Bale sound bites. With an EP due out late this summer, Brothers Backword's "Stupid Intelligent" mix tape is a glimpse of what's to come, but in this future I don't know if we can win this war.
I'm honored to premiere this here. These boys have really outdone themselves on this one.
Planning to enter the Restiform Bodies remix contest? You have some big shoes to fill, now that this reworking from the Lazer Sword boys has just arrived. Suffice to say, this electronic-heavy version of "Interactive Halloween Bear," from RBs' recently released TV Loves You Back, is suited for only the darkest and dirtiest of venues, where the quaking bassline could potentially knock your drink onto the floor. And whoever came up with that track title is an undisputed genius.
Those freak-hoppers in Restiform Bodies are gearing up for the release of their anticon. debut, TV Loves You Back, and instead of waiting until after the album's September 30 street date to start pushing the remixes, the trio enlisted Black Moth Super Rainbow boss Tobacco to get on the mixing board asap. Naturally, the latter added lots of wobbly, warped synth lines to the hip-hop flavored number. Throw in some off-kilter beat programming and rhymes spat in double-time, and a true weirdo-hop track has officially been born. Photo by Mathew Scott.
It's not really new but a director named Lorenzo Fonda made a video a while ago featuring Restiform Bodies' "Sippy Cup" track. It's a trailer made for the 2006 Independent Film Festival of Boston.
Telephone Jim Jesus made a production for the artist-dj-performer-sound-picture-editor-filmmaker newageynofriends. The track is untitled John Brown Still Owes Me a Hoodie...

4/28/08
FINALLY some news, the RB's have "officially" announced (Bomarr already did in last december on the Controller 7 forum) their new LP titled : "TV LOVES YOU BACK". The release date : September 2008. They also added 3 new tracks : "KKKmart Live SXSW 2004" , "On the Horns of the Beast" (Live in Paris Part 1 11/17/04), "Restiform Bodies vs WuTang" — and they redesigned their MySpace page.
More info from Bomarr:
none of those songs will be on the new record. 2 of them are live songs from our tour a few years back that never turned into studio songs. we just wanted to change it up a bit and get some new stuff up for people to listen to.
we'll have a new song from the record up in the coming months.
the restiform vs. wu tang thing is just something that we found online that someone * did.

STEREOGUM.COM « Telephone Jim Jesus "Things" » February 13, 2008
Oakland's George Chadwick, aka Telephone Jim Jesus, grew up in New London, New Hampshire. The folks at anticon call the place "snowy," and you could say the same for his lovely, Baudelaire-riffing sophomore solo album Anywhere Out Of The Everything. The record includes cameos from Pedestrian, Why?, Bomarr, Alias, Odd Nosdam and Doseone, among others, but is also peopled with the ghosts of a longterm relationship: Amidst the beats, guest voices, and lush forward momentum, the fuzzy transmissions rattle with a melancholic underpin. On non-album track "Things," Chadwick stitches together a Gothic-leaning instrumental, a gorgeous, spectral tune that opens in near silence and debuts with this Drop.
Can you give us a little background on "Things"? "Things" was made during an emotional period in early 2005, shortly after a break up from an eight-year relationship. I used sounds from a children's music education record where they played single notes on instruments to identify the sounds. I sampled several instruments and created my own little orchestration. I felt like it was a strong expression of the sadness and rollercoaster emotions that I was experiencing at the time. It was originally going to be on the album, but then seemed too long and slow to fit the pace. It was created about the same time as "Featherfall"* on the album and could be a sister song, from a period when I was making more orchestral music and focusing on melodies more than other things.
